i had a mild obsession with the state of new hampshire and the planet uranus because the pictures that i saw of them had amazing gradients of colors
my best friend when i was 7-8 was another weird little half-mexican-american girl named dannielle, and we told everyone we were related to selena quintanilla and had british ancestors who survived the titanic
when i was 5-6 years old i had multiple experiences where other girls locked me in a dark bathroom and wouldn’t let me out until i said “bloody mary” or “candyman” 3 times
i watched the movie “fantasia” a million times and had a lot of dreams about it
i moved around a lot and my parents would always phrase it as a “fresh start” but i was quickly established as a weird sort of overeager nerdy girl at every school
i would play with my brother in our overgrown backyard like it was a jungle or an exotic movie set, and we came up with a lot of stories. sometimes we’d say we were making a movie, sometimes it was a play or a book. there were awful insects and dirty things in the tall tall grass but it never stopped us from going out there. there was also a paper mache t-rex that was used in a high school homecoming parade, and our dad, who loves dinosaurs, convinced them to drag it into our backyard after the parade. it faded and melted within the year, but we never removed it. just this big ol dinosaur frame, its rotting head rolling off into the grass, forever and ever (until we moved again)
